Mikael is a young Brazilian boy who lives with his mother, Maria, and with one brother, in a rural community in the interior of the state of Ceara. Their simple home, which is lent to them, has brick walls, ceramic tile floor and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Running water and electricity are available. The father has abandoned the home and has not been providing any type of financial support for his children. Maria receives a very small family allowance from the federal government, which is far from enough to meet basic needs. Mikael is affectionate and intelligent. He helps his mom by washing the dishes. His favorite pastimes include playing soccer and tag. He has a dog he is fond of. Mikael is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. He attends a local public elementary school and his favorite subject is math. His wish is to be a secretary when he grows up. The family is needy and through your support Mikael and his family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation and education.
