Mathews lives with his parents in Mutamino community of Chongwe district, he has one brother and one sister, he is in school learning at a government school  within the community, the family lives in a village setup. Their source of income is subsistence farming, they grow maize on a small piece of land for consumption, and they also have a garden near a stream where they grow vegetables for relish and for sale.
