Happy Diwali 2021!

From November 2-6, 2021, many people throughout South Asia will celebrate Diwali, the traditional festival of lights. Diwali is a time to reflect on the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil – a time to gather with family and friends, light lamps, say prayers and spread joy to others. The celebration takes on special importance this year as the world continues to fight an unrelenting pandemic that has taken an unprecedented toll in South Asia and beyond.

There is no doubt that these have been dark times for children around the world. More families than ever are struggling to meet their kids’ most basic needs for nutritious food and clean water. Countless children remain out of school and disconnected from their education, vulnerable to exploitation and violence.

But light always wins out over darkness. This Diwali, you can spread that light to children in most critical need and help make sure they can grow up healthy, learning and safe, no matter what. Here's How!

Shaila was 7 months pregnant when she fell seriously ill with COVID-19. Like many citizens in her town in Maharashtra, India, she couldn’t find medical assistance due to the shortage of beds, medicines and equipment – and her village had no roads for vehicles, making it impossible for help to reach in time. ChildFund community mobilizers carried her to the nearest hospital, where they arranged a bed for her. Today, she and her baby are thriving.

The impact of your Diwali charity gift

Since 1938, ChildFund has been on a mission to end child poverty and make life better for kids everywhere. In the last year and a half, we have ramped up those efforts significantly to help millions of children and family members overcome the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A Diwali gift like yours can spread the light a child needs to really shine – a child like Sandeep, 3, who overcame severe acute malnutrition with help from ChildFund supporters just like you.

Or like Saloni, a teenager in Jharkhand, India, who thought she might never finish her education after schools were shut down. Vegetable seeds and training provided by ChildFund helped her family start a thriving garden, sell the produce and buy Saloni a smartphone so that she didn’t fall behind on her education during the lockdown.

What light might you bring to a child's life this Diwali?

May the joy of this season brighten up your life with love, peace and prosperity, and may the gifts you give today multiply for the world’s children tomorrow!
