Ana is a young Brazilian girl who lives with her parents, Raimundo and Michele, in a small community about forty miles northwest of the city of Fortaleza. Their simple home, which is self-built, has brick walls, ceramic tile flooring and a clay-tiled roof. It has a tiny bathroom. Water is carried from an artesian well. Electricity is available. Both the parents work as caretakers; the combined income, however, is hardly enough to meet basic needs. Ana is playful, cheerful and observant. She loves playing house and with dolls in the company of other girls her age. She has a dog she is passionately fond of. She is also fond of sheep. Ana is considered to have good health, in spite of the poor living conditions and diet. She attends a local public preschool where she is making good progress. The family is needy and through your support Ana and her family have the opportunity to participate in important projects in the areas of health, recreation, education and nutrition.
